BHH Naturist Resort Fuerteventura was established in 2021 with four apartments for naturist holidays around a large swimming pool and close to the naturist beaches.

In the heart of the Caribbean Sea, nestled in the serene village of Xcalak, Mexico, lies a hidden gem that captured our hearts. We're Blaney Teal and Steve Hessler, originally from Baltimore, Maryland. Our journey to discovering Playa Sonrisa Clothing Optional Resort is a tale of love, discovery, and the pursuit of a lifestyle focused on relaxation and a deep connection with nature.

A fortuitous discovery
As seasoned travelers, we were searching for a new business adventure when we stumbled upon Playa Sonrisa, a clothing-optional couples resort for sale in Mexico. We jumped on the next available plane and headed back down to Mexico, where we often visit for diving vacations. We took the opportunity to explore the nearby towns of Mahahaul and Xcalak, trying to get a feel for the area to see if this was a place we could call home. Drawn by the pristine beaches and vibrant marine life, we quickly fell in love with the tranquil atmosphere of Playa Sonrisa, a naturist resort that had been serving guests for over 22 years. Although we weren't specifically looking for a naturist oriented business, Playa Sonrisa embodied the laid-back vibe and the opportunity to run our own beachfront resort we were seeking. We decided to dive in with open minds. Playa Sonrisa, meaning "Smile Beach," lived up to its name from the moment we arrived. With lush tropical gardens, charming accommodations, and breathtaking views of the Caribbean, it was love at first sight.

A dream realized
Realizing we had found something truly special, we made the bold decision to purchase Playa Sonrisa Resort, committing to keep it clothing-optional. We were excited to carry on the legacy of the previous owners, who had nurtured the resort for 22 years. Our vision was to create a space where guests could embrace naturism while enjoying the stunning surroundings. Despite knowing little about hospitality, we jumped in with both feet, fueled by our passion for entrepreneurship. Our commitment to creating a welcoming environment has transformed the resort into a true sanctuary for relaxation and joy. We even added the tagline "Escape from Civilization" to the logo because that's exactly what Playa Sonrisa embodies.

The resort is eco-friendly as well, powered by solar energy and rainwater, but don’t worry – we offer 24/7 lights, fans, and fast Wi-Fi. Although the resort was sold as "turnkey," there was still much we wanted to do to give Playa Sonrisa a fresh facelift. We also launched a marketing campaign to attract new guests and first-time naturists. After all, the resort already had a loyal following, with guests from over 45 countries, many of whom return 8, 9, even 10 or more times! Time for us to reach some new raving fans.

Our upgrades and improvements
In just one year of ownership, we’ve made a ton of improvements. We added a stunning pool with a view, remodeled two cabins that hadn’t been in service for over 15 years, and introduced three comfortable swinging beach beds.

We also installed a large outdoor kitchen with a pizza oven and smoker for the restaurant, upgraded all the linens and towels, added solar ground lights throughout the property, and established an SSI Certified Dive Center. And that’s just the start!

What we had hoped for has succeeded and how……

Because we enjoy the peace and the wonderful view so much in our paradise, we hoped to be able to convey this feeling to our guests. And if that succeeds, then you are quite proud. 

We had a great first season and had more bookings than hoped. And how nice it was to see everyone enjoying our place so much. We have received many positive reactions and good reviews that we are very happy with. Because of that, we had a great time and we are already looking forward to the next season to welcome everyone here again. 

We are open almost all year round, now we close our doors for a while to go on holiday ourselves and then we will be ready for you again.

The large shopping street is then completely full of stands and there is a thick layer of sand for the horses. On Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday there are processions and at night there are silent processions which are also very impressive. 

For golf lovers there are several golf courses nearby. And our region of Murcia, with 320 days of sunshine per year, is an excellent holiday destination all year round.

We are Marcial and Roman. We are a gay married couple and lifelong tourism professionals.

A few years ago we were looking for a house in the south of Gran Canaria. The house had to be close to the Dunes, close to the leisure offer of Maspalomas, but at the same time in a quiet place away from the noise. This is how we discovered the neighbourhood of El Tablero de Maspalomas. A place that fulfilled all our expectations. 

Tablero de Maspalomas is located in the south of Gran Canaria and forms part of the ‘MASPALOMAS COSTA CANARIA’ area, which is the tourist brand that includes all the coastal territory of the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana.

Amongst the towns and villages included in this area are some of the best known, such as San Agustín, Playa del Inglés, San Fernando, Campo Internacional, Pasito Blanco, Sonnenland, Meloneras and Tablero de Maspalomas itself.

El Tablero de Maspalomas is situated about four kilometers from the lighthouse and the Maspalomas Dunes (nature reserve) and has easy access to the interior and to areas with walking trails such as El Salobre, Montaña La Data, Monte León, Ayagaures, Fataga, etc.

El Tablero de Maspalomas is next to the tourist resort of Sonnenland but it is more a residential area than a tourist area with about 6,000 residents.

That is why it has many local shops, large supermarkets and the Tablero Shopping Centre which is only 200 m. away from our house.

There are also bars, cafes, pizzerias and restaurants serving Canarian and other Spanish food with a local atmosphere and cheaper than those in the more touristy centres of Maspalomas. For those with a sweet tooth, we have reserved LA REINA GOLOSA, a bakery known throughout the island and only 25 meters from our house.

For all those who prefer to keep their body in shape or demand more physical activity, we are only a few meters from the sports centre and municipal swimming pool, and for those who prefer outdoor activities, El Tablero can be a good starting point for walkers, hikers or cyclists.

But back to our house, we found two houses under construction in the centre of El Tablero de Maspalomas and we finished them and put them together to make one big house. Then we built a swimming pool (8 x 3 m.) with salt water and planted some cactus inside and outside the house.

Over time these cactus have grown into trees and provide shade and privacy all year round.

When decorating the house we always had in mind to create a B&B like the ones we had known and enjoyed in Australia, South Africa or Canada.

A home to enjoy and share with friends.

At the beginning we only offered the textile possibility, but the demand to enjoy the pool naked was increasing and later we incorporated this possibility to the whole house because for us it is very nice to be naked among friends. Being naked all year round is possible because Maspalomas has a wonderful microclimate 365 days a year.

As for the house that our guests and friends enjoy, we can say that, LA CASA TABLEROHILLS has two floors.

On the first floor of about 100m2 is the living room and kitchen where every day we serve a delicious breakfast and where there is coffee and tea 24/7.

On the second floor there are three double bedrooms decorated with souvenirs of some of our trips. Therefore the names of the rooms are Africa, Asia and Oceania. We offer these rooms a little cheaper as they share a bathroom, but they have the same amenities and comfort as the others: 160 x 200 cm bed with super comfortable mattress, TV, Air Conditioning....

On the garden floor you will find the Arabian and the Mediterranean room, which have been recently built and have private bathroom and direct access to the garden and the swimming pool. On this floor there is also a small Gym to keep you fit and the infrared Sauna. There is also La Pergola where we usually rest, sit and chat, have breakfast or dinner.

The whole house is equipped with a good Wifi connection so it is always possible to telework in the nude.
Beach towels and umbrellas are provided as well as two bicycles free of charge.

The bus stop to the beach is 50 meters away and the journey takes about 10 minutes. If you rent a car, you can park for free in front of the house.

The house is for Adults Only and naturist optional.

So come, take off your clothes, relax and feel at home.

We are two guys from the island of Malta with the passion of hosting and meeting guys from around the world. With our main focus being on how to make our guests feel at home, away from home, we chose Staydar as our brand-name. Staydar is a mix of two words, ‘Stay’ in English and ‘Dar’ in Maltese which means home. In other words, Stay at Home.

We started hosting in Malta around 10 years ago until we moved to Barcelona and started having guests at our apartment. The experience in both countries is totally different and even what our guests look for, is different and so we had to adapt to a new world based on our past experiences to enable us to offer something which although may look as standard, it is different for every guest. Every guest is unique, with his likings and opinions, and we respect that.

Hospitality means being guest and that is what we try to do here, assisting our visitors to enjoy their stay in Barcelona as only memories will remain through time.

Our apartment is located within the Diagonal Mar/Forum area, and we offer two rooms. The Keith Haring room, as its name suggests is dedicated to the memory of this artist who maybe lived in a time where people were not so lucky as we all are nowadays. The other one, is the Creation room which with its iconic creation portrait.

All rooms are external and include high speed WIFI, storage bed, android television, remote controlled ceiling fan with lights, wardrobe & workstation. The creation room is also equipped with a mini-bar and usb charging points.

Our apartment is Clothing Optional, including the sunny balcony where our guests can enjoy their breakfast or meal.

In our area, you can find various supermarkets, public transport (Metro, Tram & Bus) and Diagonal Mar Shopping Centre. Marbella beach (nudist) is just a short walk away.

About 12 years ago, my wife and I went to visit our brother-in-law and sister-in-law at the Brongaard campsite in Hellevoetsluis. We had no idea where we would end up, but when we were there we found it attractive to stay here longer. And that's how we ended up on the guest field and became a member of the association.

After a while we were able to get a permanent place and found our place on the beautiful grounds. Spending the day naked in the sun and with all the peace and space around you, that's great.

The association does set a number of requirements, such as participation in the working Saturday and helping with cleaning sanitary facilities and buildings a number of times. Furthermore, everything you do for an association is also something you do for yourself and that is why we are happy that we have a place at the beautiful naturist campsite in Hellevoetsluis.

Already 5 years ago, we were still very busy with the heavy renovations of the property that we had just bought.

It was a beautifully situated domain, on a hill, with a view of the coast of Alicante and the city in the valley. Behind us an immense nature reserve of up to 500,000 m2.

Yes, we were lucky, that much is true. When we now look back on the images from that time, we, just like our guests, are amazed at how we started and where we are now. It's almost unimaginable.

Actually we had bought no more than 5 houses and two swimming pools on a large plot of land. Or at least what was left of it. All houses and technical buildings had been completely destroyed by squatters and drug addicts who had occupied it illegally for years and had destroyed it. The building stood empty for more than ten years and showed all the consequences of those years of siege and vacancy.

The garden was a real wilderness full of dead and withered palms and shrubs. Everything grew together and weeds proliferated over the paths. There was no way through.

In the houses themselves, miraculously, all walls and roofs were still sturdy and of good quality. But everything else was smashed or covered in graffiti.

There was no electricity cable anywhere to be seen and everything that was remotely salable was 'expertly' dragged out of the wall or floor. The kitchen cabinets and doors were scattered across the floor and every window was shattered.

And yet from the first viewing we felt: “this will be our new place”.

In just two months, the sale was signed in a notarial deed and troops of workmen were busy renovating it piece by piece. We moved almost at the same time and lived in the most primitive conditions among countless moving boxes and furniture spread across all the houses.

We are talking about January 2019.

We grew up with Lavinia, as we had baptized our 'child' in the meantime. We checked everything very carefully, managed the site coordinator and in the meantime tried to get our resort on track. Because our goal was to open on August 1, 2019.

Very optimistic perhaps, but despite the known 'mañana' of the Spaniards, we were able to officially receive guests a month and a half in advance. And so it happened.

Naturally, we had many setbacks and unforeseen costs. I wrote a blog about the ups and downs in Lavinia where you can read the whole story from my experience.

Five years later, five years more mature, five years happier. Grateful for the paradise we were allowed to build. The garden has become a gem full of flowers, healthy palm trees, exotic cacti, fruit trees and vegetables.

The view from the terrace where we dine with the guests is breathtaking. The climate is even better than we ever dreamed of. The 320 sunny days a year with a very mild climate even in winter and the bluer-than-blue sky puts a smile on our faces every day.

The houses have become cozy and extremely comfortable. We built an extra penthouse, a cozy bar and a professional kitchen for preparing our well-known delicious dinners.

We are extremely grateful for the unimaginable amount of beautiful and warm people we were able to meet, receive and pamper.

Grateful for the many friendships we were able to build.

And especially grateful for everyone who contributes in their own way to our dream and makes Lavinia even more beautiful and sunnier every day.

Hola a todos,

In April 2022 we moved to our new place in Lorca, Murcia region in Spain to start our dream, our own B&B. This required a major renovation first.

Our house has a large basement, so that's where it had to happen. Drawings were made by the architect and after a number of changes, the ideal layout emerged for us, 2 B&B rooms and an apartment.

The renovation of the rooms started in February 2023 and the swimming pool and bar were also completely renovated.

Fortunately, everything went well and we did not encounter any major problems.

The website was built and we had to photograph everything beautifully. We already had followers on our socials and everyone was kept informed of the progress.

In July the time had finally come, the renovation was finished, the rooms were furnished and we were ready to receive guests. And how nice it was to see everyone enjoying the peace and the view here.

Our B&B is located on a mountain and has beautiful views of the town of Lorca, the castle and the surrounding mountains. A half-hour drive will take you to the beach in Aguilas, a pleasant seaside resort where you can sit on a terrace and have a bite to eat. Here you are really among the Spaniards, so there is no busy tourism.

There are also beautiful bays for divers and snorkelers. There are several golf courses in the region. There are beautiful cities nearby to visit, Murcia and Cartagena, to experience some culture.
The Sierra de Espuna nature park is recommended for hikers and also beautiful to drive through. The cannons and mines of Mazzaron are also definitely worth a visit.

In short enough to stay here. And if you prefer to relax, plop down on one of our luxurious sunbeds by the pool.

“There are no strangers in this world, just friends we’ve yet to meet” has always been a favourite mantra of mine. Many years ago I saw this phrase scratched on a piece of drift wood and hung sloppily on a tree. I was on my first solo holiday which I will never forget.

I am now living proof of that statement which is so true and every week I meet strangers that then become friends. I feel very grateful to be living my best life.

I found my place in the sun 22 years ago, although I didn’t move to Fuerteventura permanently until 10 years ago and now I am intent on enjoying every single minute of it. In between practicing yoga, and meditation, I enjoy sailing and padel tennis, a sport that is fast growing in the UK. Padel is a mix between Tennis and Squash, played in doubles on an enclosed court surrounded by walls of glass.

Had someone told me, ten years ago, I would have my own naturist resort I would have thought they were utterly mad.  I always enjoyed naturism when I came to Fuerteventura especially the beautiful beaches that always compared to Hawaii.

I started my working life on a Youth Training Scheme straight from school and earning £27.50 per week, I was the office junior at the East Anglia Tourist Board organising familiarisation trips for journalists. I then set up my own business supported by The Princes Trust and spent many years as a print buyer which ventured into marketing and PR. I was awarded Business Woman of the Year when I was 24 years old from the young entrepreneur organisation Livewire sponsored by Shell.

I remember saying to HRH Prince of Wales if I ever started to work for someone else again, I would love it to be The Princes Trust who had supported me, and so later I began volunteering with them. I then became Regional Director and went on to support many other young people to run their own businesses.  

My memorable part of the job, apart from trips to Buckingham Palace, was giving lectures inside Prisons to the young offenders and explaining to them the similarities between their current situation where they took a high risk, which clearly didn’t pay off because they would not have ended up in prison, and being a young business person. They could take a risk and set up their own business and create a different, preferably successful, future.

After 10 wonderful years I then met my late husband, who was playing Mickey in Blood Brothers in the West End. He had started producing his own theatrical productions which I found fascinating and our business and personal partnership began. We produced together some established plays and other productions at venues throughout the UK and searching the globe for international talent to showcase to audiences throughout Europe, USA, Asia and Australia. At the same time, we also purchased property in Fuerteventura.

I decided to move over to BHH (Beverley Hills Villa) as my main home and quickly realised I preferred the sunshine lifestyle to the daily grind back in the UK. I had always attracted the occasional independent holidaymaker, including several naturists, so a few months before the Pandemic I decided to encourage naturists for holidays. Since then I have gradually created 4 independent apartments around the large swimming pool, spacious terraces, and outdoor dining and relaxing areas. As well as my own private apartment on the top of BHH where I live with my two doodle dogs, they are known as the BHH therapy pets as many of my guests will testify. In fact, Milo gets more reviews than I do!

All the naturists’ guests I had welcomed had been really nice people and had enjoyed the privacy and seclusion we offer. I certainly never had a problem being naked in front of guests or vice versa. And it’s a niche market that is easier to target than simply being just another mainstream holiday option among hundreds.

My friend took some professional photographs, and I encouraged the naturist media to be involved. Three years down the line and I am thrilled with the response and huge percentage of return guests. The word must have spread because I am attracting naturists from all over Europe these days.

Fuerteventura has the most beaches of all the Canary Islands put together. The beach at Costa Calma is within walking distance of the resort if you decide not to hire a car and collapse by the pool. If you want to go further afield there are amazing beaches at Sotavento, recently voted the best naturist beach in Spain, Jandía, Esquinzo and Mal Nombre, all nearby in the south of the island.

To me, naturism means non sexual social nudity. I also enjoy the company of first-time naturists visiting because it is a small boutique type resort with only four apartments. I think of it as a home from home and I hope my reviews on google will back this up. Most of my guests return time and time again which makes them friends now and confirms my mantra ‘there are no strangers, just friends we’ve yet to meet”.

As the owner of Domaine de la Gagère, of course I am extremely enthusiastic about  our campsite. La Gagère lies in the southern part of the regional Parc of the Morvan in the Burgundy. The campsite pitches and most rentals have an extremely beautiful view of the valley, where every evening nature displays a different gorgeous sunset. At the end of a winding road, the only thing you will hear at night is the sound of silence and maybe a nightbird or animal. The tranquillity, combined with the high level of facilities of our 4-star campsite, is what makes La Gagère unique.

Newcomers welcome!
We try to maintain a very high standard in hospitality and services in a very relaxed atmosphere. Everything is possible, but nothing obliged. Except enjoying the natural surroundings in the buff and respecting guests and staff. We also try to be welcoming to newcomers to naturism. As Andrew S. from great Britain testifies: “La Gagère was our first experience of a naturist camping. So it is special for us and honestly, we couldn’t have done better. From the super friendly staff to the campers themselves who helped us feel comfortable in what is, for the first time, quite an adventure.”

High level services
To complete your stay at La Gagère there are many facilities at your disposal, on- and off-site. We have a restaurant with a large terrace and bar, where a different three-course menu is served six evenings a week, always with a vegetarian option. There is a friterie where pizzas can also be taken away. There are two heated swimming pools, one of which is covered, and an infants’ pool. You can use four luxurious sanitary buildings, three of which are equipped with an EasyBe 5-minute dishwasher. For relaxation you can book a massage or use our sauna. You can order fresh bread every day. All our facilities are accessible to the disabled. There are also two fully adapted accommodations available (mobile home and chalet type B new). Play a fun game of pétanque with your neighbours or use the volleyball court and ping-pong table. From La Gagère we have described a number of walks through the beautiful nature around the site.  Being a 4-star campsite naturally brings along a certain level of quality facilities. However we always aim to go just one step further in making La Gagère a holiday never to forget! We obtained a Qualité Tourisme label in 2023 with a very high score.

We aim to take the best possible care of the nature that surrounds us. Therefore sustainability is an important part of our corporate philosophy. Sustainable development is the development that meets the livelihood needs of the present generation without compromising those of future generations. These include economic, social and environmental needs. We feel a responsibility, as a company, to take good care of the earth, not to exploit its natural resources, to treat people and animals with respect and to care for, in particular, the local economy. Our sustainable actions include:

- Waste management through separation of waste, using its own container park. Compost bins in all rental units.
- Solar water heaters for hot water in our new chalets.
- Heat pumps for heating the pools. In pre-season only the small pool with canopy is used and heated.
- 5-minutes EasyBe dishwashers for water saving.
- Light sensors are used for street lighting and sanitary buildings and the use of Led lighting.
- Use of renewable materials in the new wooden chalets and safari tents.

- The use of eco-friendly and natural products for cleaning, maintenance and office.
- The use of electric golf carts for cleaning and technical staff.
- Online meetings when possible.
- Silence hours on the campsite between 11pm and 7.30am. No traffic during these hours.
- Educate guests on reducing water consumption and electricity and waste separation via posters.
- Educate staff on eco-friendly and locally purchased cleaning products, water conservation and electricity use through team meetings and handbooks.
- Partnering with local producers, artisans and other businesses for sourcing the shop, restaurant and various activities

If you enjoy walking, or just relaxing and getting that over all tan, you will not be disappointed. We do a walking tour of the site most evenings with our dogs and sometime a glass of wine and stop and chat with many campers, one of the rituals of the day and much enjoyed. Many of the campers are Dutch but for us English that is not a problem since nearly all of them speak perfect English. We all have moments that we treasure from our holidays, for us, it was standing hand in hand gazing out over a landscape that looks as if it has barely been touched by human hand. On one of our walks, I said to my partner “Do you think we will always come back to this place”, without a flicker of hesitation they replied “Yes!”.”
